With the advance of the technology big companies have innovated the way to advertise their product, in a competitive market that is growing every year. The big amount of advertisement define the amount of sales most of the times, also what increases sales is the strategies that companies use to attract customers or to maintain existing customers, those strategies can be such as discounts coupon, reducing prices. There is different types of advertisement, 1-newspapers 2-megazines 3-radio 4- Television 5-internet and outdoor media.
We see here in this picture how Banana Republic is using Outdoor Media second picture we see how it is promoting its product a promotion.

Some companies can use of unethical competition with purpose to attract customers which can result in lawsuit or complaints by customers. as we see in the second picture of Banana's promo which is telling us the whole store has 50% off which actually isn't true.
Clothing retailer Banana Republic has been sued for "luring" in shoppers with "deceptive" sale signs outside stores, according to a complaint filed in Los Angeles.
"Banana Republic deceives consumers and cheats its competitors by luring consumers" with advertisements “representing all of the products in the stores are on sale,” without indicating that the sale “applies only to certain products,” the lawsuit filed Tuesday with the Los Angeles County Superior Court alleges.
Sajid Veera of Redondo Beach, Calif., claims he saw an ad in the window of a Banana Republic store in El Segundo, Calif., and other stores that indicated sales such as "Today only - 40 percent off your purchase," according to his complaint.
He said he was "enticed" to enter the store because of the sign and selected several items to purchase, his suit states. But at the register, an employee told him the store wouldn't sell some of those items at discounted prices, the filing states.
A spokeswoman for Gap Inc., the parent company of Banana Republic, said the company does not comment on pending litigation.

The Role that Facebook Plays at Banana Republic.

This is the role that Facebook in Banana Republic, this related with chapter 14 Marketing Channels and Retailing. we can see that Facebook is a channel that the company uses to attract and promote his products, which results in higher sales.

Facebook Success Story: Facebook is Banana Republic’s Top Channel for New Customer Acquisition

Banana Republic

Introduction
The Facebook Custom Audiences product rolled out of beta in Q4 2013. This product allows advertisers to leverage their own CRM data to find those exact people on Facebook. Another great feature of this product is the ability to build lookalikes from any CRM segment, such as your top customers.

We tested Custom Audiences with our longtime client, Banana Republic in Q4 2013 in hopes of driving new customer acquisition. At the time only 20% of online retailers were using this product and thus we saw a first to market advantage. The success was so great, it changed the way we manage our Facebook campaigns today.

Overview
Banana Republic offers modern and refined clothing and accessories for men and women and is owned by Gap Inc. While Banana Republic has a massive customer base, their most loyal customers are getting older. Banana Republic's business goal is to acquire both new and younger customers while maintaining and efficient return on ad spend.
With these business goals in mind, Booyah partnered closely with the Facebook, brand, CRM, and creative teams to execute a campaign on Facebook designed to find and attract the customer base Banana Republic was after.
Since Facebook reaches 71% of online adults and is 2x more accurate than traditional display networks, it was the best partner to help Banana Republic achieve their top business objectives.

Objectives
• Understand Facebook's value in driving new customer acquisition at an efficient return on ad spend
• Evaluate the quality of Facebook's lookalike targeting tool, which leverages proprietary social graph data to find people on Facebook that look like your CRM file of choice.
"The Custom Audiences and lookalike targeting tools are compelling because they integrate social graph data with traditional behavioral and demographic information. The added social profile data means that Facebook can help us reach a target audience based on our top customers, not just anybody that converts on our website. We can then tailor our offers and messaging to drive results."
